The No More Lethal Lorries campaign which was started by the London Cycling Campaign has reached 4,500 signatures. The campaign was started due to the 26 deaths of cyclists in the last four years. The petition calls for London councils to take an active role in lorry drivers and subcontractors in order to eliminate any more cyclist deaths.

The petition is still open for signatures according to the campaign headquarters. They are looking for a few changes to be made such as driver training for these lorry drivers. It is true that all lorry drivers have had to go through training in order to get the appropriate licence. The problem seems to be a refreshing of these concepts that lorry drivers learn.

With cyclists being killed every other month it seems that some type of advanced HGV training is required. The last person to be killed was Dan Cox in February. He was in a collision with an HGV in Datson. The London Cycling Campaign is asking for drivers to undergo an additional training to their usual driver training programme. Cyclists want them to go through a cycle awareness training in which lorry drivers have to have an on bike experience.
